Chrome can be set to auto open a downloaded file in a specific application immediately after it has finished downloading.

To reset this and bring Chrome back to defaults in this regard, follow the steps below. 

Go to this link in Chrome   chrome://settings/?search=download

In this section of the page, click the "Clear" button next to Open certain file types automatically after downloading.
